Junior Hockey
Hockey is an exciting, fun sport and is very popular with many young people. You may just want to try out hockey as a new sport, you may know that you will be playing it in secondary school and want to start learning to play now, or you may already be aware of the many health and wellbeing benefits the sport of hockey offers. Whatever your reason to start hockey, Waterford Hockey Club welcomes you to the Junior (Youth) Hockey section of our club. Our Junior Hockey section caters for age 12 girls and age 11 boys up to age 15.
We offer learning and playing opportunities for all levels of hockey playing ability and a proven pathway to progress to Senior Club Hockey and beyond. Previous Junior Hockey players have subsequently went on to represent our club on Ireland Hockey teams from U16 to Senior level.
Our aim is to ensure that all our young members have fun, take part, make new friends and enjoy the lifelong benefits of being active in sport; while developing their hockey playing skills in a friendly, social and competitive sporting environment.
Girls Junior Hockey
Our Girls Junior Hockey caters for all girls from age 12 up to age 15. Our club currently provides coaching for Under 14 and Under 16 girls junior teams. These teams typically compete in hockey blitz, cup or league competitions at club level in the Munster hockey provincial region. Individual girls junior hockey players have the potential to progress to represent U16 and U18 Munster and Leinster South hockey provinces at Interprovincial competition level.
Boys Junior Hockey
Our Boys Junior Hockey caters for all boys from age 11 up to age 15. Our club currently provides coaching for Under 13 and Under 16 boys junior teams. These teams typically compete in hockey blitz, cup or league competitions at club level in the Munster hockey provincial region. Individual boys junior hockey players have the potential to progress to represent U16 and U18 Munster hockey province at Interprovincial competition level.
Hockey Goalkeeper Training
Waterford Hockey Club provides a high level of goalkeeper training through one of our highly experienced Senior Hockey goalkeepers. Goalkeeper training is available to club members of all ages. Some of our youngest goalkeepers have started training from the age of 10.
