Appointment of Waterford Hockey Club Women’s and Men’s 1st team coaches for 2020/21 season

Waterford have been quick to secure a high quality management team for the Ladies First XI for 2020/21 season with the appointment of David Quinn, head coach and Jonathan Earl, assistant coach. The club are delighted to welcome back David Quinn (Level 2 Irish Hockey/FIH coach), who will head up the team. He has been heavily involved with the squad over the past two seasons in which the ladies team has grown in strength. David has also successfully coached at a number of clubs and schools in Ireland and Canada (Pembroke Wanders, The Jokers HC Vancouver, The High School Dublin and Newtown School Waterford). Before that he was also highly successful in playing Irish National League hockey (IHL) with Pembroke Wanders. David was delighted to take up the position along with the role of developing coaches in the underage section.

“Waterford HC is a great club with an excellent pool of youth players, infrastructure and history. We need to build on the recent success of the men’s section and continue to replicate that in the ladies section. The club unquestionably has the potential to be one the best in Munster and I am looking forward to the coming year with the team.”

Waterford is delighted to announce the appointment of Stuart Greene as coach of the Men’s 1st Team for the coming 2020/21 season. Stuart is a Hockey Ireland Level 2 qualified coach. He has been coaching hockey for over 15 years at school, club and inter provincial level. He has developed a number of provincial and international players through his involvement in coaching with Newtown School and Waterford Hockey Club. He was the head coach of Newtown Senior Boys Hockey team that won the All Ireland School Boys Championship in 2018. He was also coach of the Waterford Men’s 1st Team that were victorious in the Irish Hockey Trophy Final in 2019. Following on from this success, he won Munster Hockey Coach of the year for the 2018-2019 season. Subsequently, he spent some time in Australia and gained ample experience coaching Sydney Girls High School and University of New South Wales, both of which teams won their respective leagues. He also won Coach of the Year at the University of New South Wales club that season.
